BiPolar

Hip System

Understanding the Bipolar Head

The bipolar head is an advanced component of a total hip replacement, replacing the natural femoral head and working in conjunction with a femoral head implant and hip stem.

Key Components

Highly Polished CoCr Outer Shell: This durable shell articulates with the patient’s preserved acetabulum (hip socket). Polyethylene Insert: Located within the outer shell, this insert articulates with a modular femoral head. Modular Femoral Head (22mm or 28mm diameter): This component is secured within the bipolar head by a pre-assembled retaining ring.

How it Works

The bipolar head features a dual articulation system:

  • Outer Articulation: The CoCr outer shell moves against the patient’s natural acetabulum.
  • Inner Articulation: The polyethylene insert moves against the modular femoral head.

This design provides enhanced stability and a smoother range of motion.

Why Accurate Sizing Matters:

  • Ensures a snug fit within the acetabulum, promoting stability.
  • Optimizes articulation between components, reducing wear.
  • Contributes to a wider and more comfortable range of motion.
