Spine Fusion Overview

A variety of spine conditions can lead to chronic back pain.  If more conservative treatments do not provide relief, your doctor may suggest that a surgical procedure called spinal fusion is appropriate.  Spinal fusion surgery is intended to relieve pressure from the spinal nerves that are causing pain. This is achieved by restoring the alignment of the spine and then stabilizing and fusing the spine.  A spinal fusion is complete when bone grows between the operated vertebrae, eliminating pain-causing motion.
